Community Involvement
There are many ways that parents, whānau and our wider community are invited to contribute to our school.
Our School Community Group co-ordinates a range of fund raising activities throughout the year, including the “Central Challenge” (Rogaine) and “Central Crank” (Mountain Bike) events. As well as being fundraisers, these are important events on the school social calendar, bringing our community together for active, fun and health promoting family activities.
The School Community Group also runs smaller events throughout the year in support of our school, such as the student disco and the school picnic.
Money raised helps to provide extra resources, facilities and opportunities for the tamariki. Some examples of things that the School Community Group has funded or contributed to are: lockable scooter racks, upgrade of the playground, Tamariki Toa (Kapa Haka group) going to national competitions, IT equipment, art projects, sports equipment, sensory garden and school camps.
For these great community fundraising events to run we need parent’s/whānau involvement in an active school community group. As well as members of the school community group, we also need help to organise and run these events.
If you are interested in contributing your time and energy by being a member or helping in another way, please contact your class teacher or email scg@nelsoncentral.school.nz.
The School Community Group usually meet a couple of times per term in the staff room. Look on the school’s calendar in this website for the dates and times.
Other opportunities for parents to be involved include helping in classes and on class trips. Teachers always appreciate help in providing opportunities to our ākonga and many activities could not happen without the time and energy of parent volunteers.
